The employers' representatives of the Principality have just signed the Charter for the Equality of women and men at work proposed by the Department of Social Affairs and Health, in relation to all stakeholders and the Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Women’s rights.
This Charter embodies the commitment of employers to the promotion of equality of women and men at work. Signatories membership is a sign of their willingness to act concretely and to bring about a lasting convergence of their actions.
The Government Counselor - Minister of Social Affairs and Health, Didier Gamerdinger, stated in his opening remarks: "I am deeply convinced that the equality of women and men is above all a state of mind. I think we have this state of mind in Monaco although there is still some way to go. That's why I suggested to the employers’ representatives of the Principality to commit to this. In order to recognize the place of women in the world of work ".
Before signing the Charter, the seven signatories explained in turn the reasons of their commitment, including particularly:
H.E. Mr Serge Telle, Minister of State, for Civil Servants: "This is a major issue for the women of Monaco, of course, but more broadly for the Principality as a whole. Because promoting women's rights means fighting for the most fundamental values that unite us and define us. Promoting women's rights means working for justice, freedom and universality ".
Etienne Franzi, President of the Monegasque Association of Financial Activities: "For equal work, equal pay. This principle has been in use for a long time in banks. It follows from the mode of remuneration provided for by the Collective Agreement. Regarding the famous "glass ceiling" preventing women from accessing certain levels of responsibility, things have evolved more slowly, but it begins to chip. [...] The Charter is therefore a perfect incentive to go forward ".
