On 24 February, the Eurosystem will issue the new 20 euros banknote, after those of 5 and 10 euros. This in a dual objective: to improve the integrity of the euro banknotes and maintain the technological edge on counterfeiting. Cooperation with manufacturers, suppliers, operators and owners of facilities for the notes is essential : even before the release of the new banknote, they will adapt cash dispensers and machines to make them accepted.
The Eurosystem has implemented various appropriate measures:
- The new note is available to them in the national central banks of the euro area well before its introduction to test machines and cash dispensers.
- Many communication tools are provided to them, to help them prepare for the introduction of the new note.
- As of February 6, 2015, numerous communication actions and events will prepare the release of the new 20 euros banknote.
